Lake Forest Holds On, Defeats Marian on Senior Day

The Forester women's hockey team hosted and defeated Marian University 2-1 on Friday.

Lake Forest's leading scorer, junior forward Marissa Gebauer, factored into both of the team's goals. She scored her 12th goal of the season halfway through the opening period and assisted on the official game-winner scored by senior defenseman Olyvia Opsahl at 8:35 in the second.

Senior forward Emelia Edmondson and junior defenseman Karya Dean were credited with assists on Gebauer's score.

Marian closed to within a goal at the 4:22 mark of the second period but were unable to complete the comeback.

Lake Forest outshot the visitors 43-21 and junior goaltender Hannah Turnage turned away 20 of the Sabres' attempts to earn the victory. Her save percentage on the season is now .934 while her goals against average dropped to 2.07.

The victory raised the Foresters' overall record on the season to 12-9-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 12-3-0. Marian fell to 7-15-2 overall and 4-9-2 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Saturday afternoon at 4:00. It will be the final game of the regular season for both teams, who could face off again in the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs next weekend.
