The Lake Forest College women's hockey team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 5-3 Saturday night to complete a weekend sweep of the Falcons and retain the Border Battle Cup.

The Foresters accounted for the only two scores in the opening period, the first by junior forward Marissa Gebauer at the 7:12 mark. It was her team-high ninth tally of the year. Freshman defenseman Abby Meyer netted her first career goal just 95 seconds later with sophomore defenseman Grace Garby assisting.

Both teams scored twice in the second period and Lake Forest's goals were the first in the career of junior forward Iman Shepard. She put the home team on top 3-0 at the 6:18 mark and, after a pair of Falcon scores made the score 3-2, Shepard restored the Foresters' two-goal advantage with 5:30 on the clock. Meyer and freshman Sophia Chapman assisted on Shepard's first score and Gebauer set up the second.

The only power play goal of the night was turned in by Concordia Wisconsin at the 14:15 mark of the third period but Chapman lit the lamp just 62 seconds to thwart the visitors' comeback bid. Gebauer and Shepard finished off three-point performances with assists on Chapman's second score of the season.

The Falcons out-shot the Foresters 31-22 on the evening but Lake Forest junior goaltender Hannah Turnage tallied 28 saves to earn the victory.

The annual regular season series between the teams is dubbed the "Border Battle" and the Foresters will possess the Border Battle Cup until they meet again next year.

The victory evened Lake Forest's overall record on the season at 6-6-0 and the Foresters remained perfect in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play after six league games. Concordia Wisconsin fell to 8-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the NCHA.

Lake Forest will host St. Norbert College at 7:00 next Friday night and Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
