The Lake Forest College women's hockey team rolled to a 6-1 victory at Concordia University Wisconsin Friday night in the Foresters' first game since December 4.

The only goal of the night for the home team was a power play goal at 10:51 in the opening period and gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The Foresters responded just 41 seconds later and pulled ahead less than a minute after that. Junior forwards Marissa Gebauer and Stokli Ashcraft were responsible for the goals with Ashcraft's proving to be the official game-winner. Senior defenseman Olyvia Opsahl set up both scores and additional assists were credited to junior forward Samantha Shoebottom and sophomore forward Lexi Nguyen.

Concordia Wisconsin had a 12-11 advantage in shots on goal in the first period but Lake Forest led 2-1 when it was over and added a third goal just 22 seconds into the second. It was the team-high eighth score of the season for Gebauer and the first of three power play goals for the Foresters on the night.

After setting up both of Gebauer's goals, Shoebottom recorded her third assist of the game at 6:59 in the second period on senior forward Grace Black's first score of the year. A pair of Foresters matched Shoebottom's three-point performance at the 15:06 mark when Gebauer earned one of the assists on Opsahl's second goal of 2021-22. The power play score was also set up by freshman forward Lauren Wenzel.

Lake Forest doubled up the home team 16-8 in the shot category in the second period and had a slight 14-13 advantage in the third.

The only goal of the final 20 minutes was the first career tally for Forester freshman defenseman Sophia Chapman. Sophomore forward Danielle Selby assisted on the power play score at 6:07.

Lake Forest junior goaltender Hannah Turnage stopped 32 of 33 shots on goal in the contest and raised her save percentage on the year to .933.

The Foresters improved to 5-6-0 overall and remained perfect in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play after five league games. Concordia Wisconsin fell to 8-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference.

The same two teams will face off in game two of their annual Border Battle Saturday night at 7:00 in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
