Foresters Fall to Nation's Sixth-Ranked Team

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team continued its daunting early-season schedule with a 4-1 loss to visiting Gustavus Adolphus College Friday night.

The Foresters actually jumped out to the early lead with a power play goal at the 12:36 mark of the opening period. The score was the second of the season for junior forward Marissa Gebauer, who was assisted by fellow junior forward Samantha Shoebottom and senior defenseman Olyvia Opsahl.

The Gusties outshot the home team 14-4 in the first period but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play thanks in part to the performance of Lake Forest junior goaltender Hannah Turnage. Turnage finished the night with 33 saves and has 121 after three games this season.

A Forester penalty at the conclusion of the first and another 23 seconds into the second set up a 5-on-3 opportunity for the visitors and they converted at the 1:58 mark. The Gusties then took the lead at 10:46 and added a pair of power play goals early in the third.

The loss dropped Lake Forest's record on the year to 0-3-0 while Friday night's game was the season opener for the Gusties.

The first USCHO Poll of the season came out on Monday and Gustavus Adolphus was ranked sixth, two spots behind the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, the Foresters opponent last weekend.

Lake Forest will host the Gusties again Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
