Foresters Blank Marian Again, Climb NCHA Standings

Senior goaltender posted her second shutout of the weekend Saturday in a 3-0 triumph at Marian University.

Rogers needed to make just 16 saves to keep the Sabres off the scoreboard while the Foresters put 48 shots on goal in the contest. She is now 10-6-0 with a 1.89 goals against average and .936 save percentage on the season.

The first two goals of the game came off the stick of senior defenseman Julia Unterseher. She gave the visitors the early lead at the 12:26 mark of the opening period and then converted a power play opportunity in the final minute. Senior forwards Kristina Bellomo and Sydney Simone each earned an assist, Bellomo on the first of the contest and Simone on the fourth goal of the year for Unterseher, who scored twice in a game for the second time in her Forester career.

The third and final goal of the evening was scored by sophomore forward Abigail Tucci at the 11:26 mark of the second stanza. Sophomore defenseman Olyvia Opsahl set up Tucci's second score of the season.

The victory improved the Foresters' overall record to 13-9-1 and they jumped over Aurora University and into second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a 10-3-1 mark in league play. Marian fell to 4-18-1 overall and 2-11-1 in the conference.

Lake Forest will close out the regular season with a pair of home games against Concordia University Wisconsin next weekend. The teams will face off Friday afternoon at 4:00 and against on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Friday will be Parents Day and Saturday Senor Day and Alumni Day, which includes the presentation of the Ry McCarthy Award.
