Foresters Scored Four in the Third, Win 5-0 at Marian

Freshman defenseman Iman Shepard earned her first career point Friday night as Lake Forest posted a 5-0 victory at Marian University.

Shepard and freshman forward Stokli Ashcraft set up the Foresters' fourth goal of the night, scored by freshman forward Marissa Gebauer at the 12:56 mark of the final period. Gebauer now has five tallies this season with four of them coming in the last seven games.

The visitors also scored less than three minutes before and after Gabauer's goal with sophomore Olyvia Opsahl netting her fourth of the year at 10:17 and sophomore defenseman Rose Sperry the first of her career at 15:36. Junior forward Annie Dalton and senior defenseman Julia Unterseher, respectively, assisted on the scores.

Senior forward Lexi Morgan, who had missed the Foresters previous five games due to injury, celebrated her return to the lineup by accounting for the first two goals of the night. After a scoreless opening period, she finally put the visitors on the board at the 7:14 mark of the second with junior forward Makenzie Kamm assisting on the play. Morgan's seventh of the season and 43rd of her career was an unassisted shorthanded goal at 2:27 in the third.

Lake Forest had a significant edge in shots on goal in every period and finished the night leading the Sabres 47-19 in that category.

Forester senior goaltender Jacque Rogers recorded her second shutout of the year and the 21st of her career. She is now 9-6-0 with a .934 save percentage on the season.

The victory raised the Foresters' overall record to 12-9-1 and the team is still in third place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings at 9-3-1 in league play. Marian fell to 4-17-1 overall and 2-10-1 in NCHA play.

The same two teams will face off again at Marian Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
