Foresters Prevail at Nation's 6th-Ranked Team

Senior forward Sydney Simone's short-handed goal made a winner of of senior goaltender Jacque Rogers, who made 40 saves in Lake Forest's 3-1 victory at Adrian College on Sunday.

Simone's team-high ninth score of the season broke a 1-1 tie at the 16:12 mark of the third period and was assisted by fellow senior forward Kate Fanning. Lake Forest had gone on the penalty kill just 21 seconds earlier and Simone's fourth short-handed goal of the year tied the program record set by Courtney DeHoey in 2006-07.

Simone also contributed to the Foresters' first tally of the afternoon, combining with freshman forward Stokli Ashcraft to set up freshman defenseman Karya Dean's second goal of the season. The power play goal at 12:07 in the opening period gave the visitors the lead.

Adrian evened the score in the final 10 seconds of the first period and the teams played a scoreless second.

While Simone's goal was the official game-winner, the clinching score came from Ashcraft on an empty net with 54 seconds remaining. The Bulldogs had pulled their goalie before an offensive zone face-off nearly a minute earlier and, when Ashcraft finally gained control of the puck for the Foresters, she skated up the right side before firing a shot from just inside the red line and scoring for the second time this year.

Lake Forest was out-shot 14-8 in the opening period and both teams put 27 shots on target in the game's final 40 minutes.

After stopping 37 of 39 shots on goal the night before, Rogers turned away 40 of 41 on Sunday to improve to 8-6-0 with a .931 save percentage and 2.17 goals against average on the year.

The Foresters are now 11-9-1 overall and 8-3-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. Adrian, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, fell to 15-3-3 overall and 10-1-1 in the conference.

Lake Forest will travel to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, for next weekend's series at Marian University. The teams will face off Friday night at 7:00 and again Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
