Lake Forest Unable to Hold Early Lead at #6 Adrian

Freshman forward Marissa Gebauer gave the Foresters the early lead but they eventually fell 3-1 at Adrian College on Saturday.

Gebauer's fourth goal of the season came at the 10:19 mark of the opening period and the score was still 1-0 when the buzzer sounded, despite a 15-7 advantage in shots for the home team.

Adrian finally tied the game with 3:57 to play in the second and the team's went into the locker room at the second intermission tied at one.

The Bulldogs outshot the Foresters 11-10 in the second stanza and doubled them up 14-7 in that category in the third. The scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 2:45 mark and then tacked on an empty net tally in the final five seconds. It was the first empty net goal allowed by Lake Forest in 142 games, a streak that dates back to January of 2015.

Lake Forest senior goaltender Jacque Rogers made 37 saves on the evening, matching her second-highest total of the season.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record on the season to 10-9-1 and they fell to 7-3-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Adrian, ranked sixth in the nation, improved to 15-2-3 overall and 10-0-1 in the league.

The sam two teams will face off again Sunday afternoon at 3:00 (ET).
