Foresters Blank Trine 5-0, Advance to Slaats Cup Semifinal

Junior defenseman Julia Unterseher recorded her second career two-goal game in Lake Forest's 5-0 victory over visiting Trine University on Saturday. The Foresters swept the Thunder in their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup quarterfinal series.

Unterseher, who entered the game with two goals on the season, accounted for the Foresters' second and third goals of the contest after senior forward Amy Budde gave the home team the lead at the 14:48 mark of the second period. Budde, who was assisted by sophomore forward Makenzie Kamm and defenseman Jordan Trapp, leads the NCHA with 21 goal on the year and ranks 10th in the nation in goals per game. Trapp and junior forward Maddie Davis set up Unterseher's power play score at 18:08 and the Foresters led 2-0 at the second intermission.

Budde recorded the first of her two assists of the third period on Unterseher's score at 1:52. Davis assisted junior forward Lexi Morgan's seventh goal this season at 9:00 and Budde set up the first of the year by junior forward Kate Fanning at 12:15. Budde now has 131 points in her career, one shy of Olivia Spellmire for second place in program history.

Lake Forest outshot Trine in each period and 43-22 in the contest.

Junior goaltender Jacque Rogers made 22 saves in her seventh shutout of the season and 19th of her career.

The Foresters improved to 16-6-5 while Trine's season ends at 10-13-2.

Lake Forest will face off against the College of St. Scholastica in the NCHA Slaats Cup semifinal next Friday night. The game will be played at Adrian College, which will host the winner in the final on Sunday.
