Defensemen Jordan Trapp and Julia Unterseher each assisted on a pair of goals as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 4-2 Saturday night.
Trapp and junior defenseman Amanda Boisjolie set up sophomore forward Makenzie Kamm for the Foresters' first goal of the season just 26 seconds into the contest. The home team also converted on the first power play opportunity of the night at 6:41, making the score 2-0. Senior forward Amy Budde scored the goal for her 99th career point and assists were credited to Trapp and junior forward Kristina Bellomo. After the Falcons got on the scoreboard at the 7:23 mark, Lake Forest restored its two-goal advantage on a score by Bellomo with just 58 seconds on the clock. Unterseher earned an assist on the play and the teams went into the locker room for the first intermission with the home team ahead 3-1.
After out-shooting Concordia Wisconsin 12-6 in the opening frame, the Foresters had a 12-3 advantage in that category in the next 20 minutes. The visitors connected on one of those three shots on goal at the 4:30 mark but Lake Forest responded at 6:26 with its second power play score of the evening. Sophomore forward Megan Lyke accounted for the goal with assists going to Unterseher and freshman forward Olyvia Opshal, who earned her first career point.
There was no scoring in the final period, despite 11 shots on goal from the home team and seven by the Falcons.
Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Julieana Tarantino recorded 15 saves to secure the victory in her season debut.
The Foresters are now 1-2-0 overall this season while Concordia Wisconsin fell to 2-1-0. Saturday night's contest was the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both squad and the teams will be back in action in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
