Lake Forest Blanks Trine for Fifth Consecutive Shutout

A day after posted her first hat trick, senior forward Amanda Brunges recorded a career-high four assists in the Foresters women's hockey team's 8-0 triumph over Trine University at home on Saturday.

Brunges and sophomore forward Sydney Simone set up freshman forward Annie Dalton for the first goal of game just two minutes and eight seconds into the contest. It was the team-high 13th assist of the year for Simone. Freshman forward Megan Lyke doubled the home team's lead at the 9:20 mark with an assist credited to junior forward Amy Budde. The Foresters out-shot the Thunder 16-1 in the opening period and led 2-0 when the buzzer sounded.

Dalton made the scored 3-0 at 9:19 in the second period on her second goal of the afternoon and fifth this season. Fellow freshman forward Kristina Bellomo assisted on the score. Budde then netted her team-high 12th goal of the year at the 15:06 mark with sophomore defenseman Amanda Boisjolie picking up an assist. Lake Forest put 20 shots on goal to Trine's four in the second period and led 4-0 with 20 minutes to play.

Boisjolie lit the lamp for the third time this year at the 6:15 mark of the third period. Brunges set up that score and joined Dalton in assisting on Lyke's eighth goal of the season at 13:08. Senior defenseman Kayla Griffith scored for the second time this season at 14:48 with Bellomo and senior forward Olivia Spellmire assisting. Spellmire and Brunges then assisted on sophomore forward Lexi Morgan's power play goal with 3:15 to play in the contest. It was the 11th score of the season for Morgan and the Foresters' only power play goal in three chances on the day. The home team had a 17-1 advantage in shots on goal in the final 20 minutes and a 53-6 edge in the contest.

Lake Forest senior goaltender Jacquie Audet made six saves in her second straight shutout and evened her record on the year at 2-2-0.

It was the fifth consecutive shutout for the Foresters who improved to 7-3-0 overall and 7-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this year. Trine fell to 1-7-0 overall and in the league.

Lake Forest will close out the fall semester with a non-conference match-up against Aurora University Tuesday night at 7:00. The game will be played outdoors at The Winter Club in Lake Forest, which is located less than a mile north of campus.
