Junior forward Amy Budde and freshman forward Megan Lyke finished off natural hat tricks with short-handed goals during the same penalty kill as the Forester women's hockey team blanked visiting Finlandia University 7-0 on Saturday.
Lake Forest's lead in the game was 1-0 after two periods before Lyke lit the lamp at 6:19 and 9:16 in the third. Her first of the contest was assisted by senior defenseman Kayla Griffith and the second by senior forward Olivia Spellmire.
Budde scored the next two goals at 10:04 and 10:27 with sophomore defenseman Julia Unterseher picking up an assist on the first. After a Forester penalty at 11:04, Budde finished off her hat trick off a pass from Griffith at the 12:02 mark. It was her third score in a two-minute span and she is now tied with Spellmire for the team lead in goals with nine.
Just 36 seconds passed before Lyke netted her third goal of the contest and sixth this season.
The first goal of the day was scored by sophomore forward Sydney Simone midway through the second period. Her fifth score of the year and second career game-winner was assisted by sophomore forward Kate Fanning and senior defenseman Melissa Bodine.
Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Jacque Rogers needed to make just seven saves to earn her third shutout in her last three starts. She is now tied for first in the nation in shutouts and ranked fourth with a 0.65 goals against average and 11th with a .953 save percentage this season. Her seven career shutouts in 22 starts are just one shy of the program's record.
The Foresters are 5-3-0 overall this season and 5-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Finlandia fell to 1-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in league games.
After a weekend off, Lake Forest will continue NCHA play at home against Trine University the following Friday and Saturday.
