Lake Forest Unable to Avoid Sweep by Adrian

Junior forward Olivia Spellmire gave the Foresters the early lead but the Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 4-1 by visiting Adrian College in Saturday's regular season finale.

Spellmire's 15th goal this season was assisted by freshman forward Kate Fanning and junior forward/defenseman Kayla Griffith at the 6:08 mark of the opening period. It was the fifth power play goal of the weekend for the Foresters, who are tied with Adrian for the national lead with 39 such scores this year.

The Bulldogs tied the score 10 minutes later and the teams went into the locker room at te first intermission tied 1-1.

Adrian converted power play opportunities at 3:46 and 12:44 in the second and tacked on another power play goal at 4:39 in the third.

Lake Forest freshman goaltender Jacque Rogers made 44 saves in the game as the Bulldogs outshot the Foresters 48-17 on the day.

The Foresters, who entered the week ranked sicth in the nation by USCHO.com, finished the regular season 20-4-1 overall and 14-3-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contests. Adrian, ranked second in the country, is 23-2-0 overall and without a loss in league play.

Lake Forest will host the College of St. Scholastica in next weekend's NCHA Sllats Cup semifinal series. The teams will face off at 7:00 both Friday and Saturday night.
