Foresters Blank Saint Marys Again

Senior forward Isabel Regine scored her second game-winning goal of the weekend as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team won 5-0 at Saint Mary's University Saturday afternoon.

Regine, who scored her first career game-winner the night before in her 88th game as a Forester, netted her second shorthanded goal of the season at the 9:33 mark on Saturday. The unassisted score was her sixth of the year overall.

Fellow senior forward Kayla Griffith also scored the first sixth time this season at 13:46 and sophomore forward Amy Budde netted her team-high 12th of the year less than two minutes later. Junior defenseman Caroline Campbell assisted on Griffith's goal and freshman forward Sydney Simone set up Budde.

The Foresters out-shot Saint Mary's 10-6 in the opening period and led 3-0 at its completion. Lake Forest also had a 15-6 advantage in shots on goal in a scoreless second stanza and an 11-6 edge in the final 20 minutes.

The visitors finally added to their lead on freshman forward Kate Fanning's sixth goal of the yearat 3:24 in the third. She was assisted by Budde and Simone. Campbell then assisted on sophomore forward Samantha Wais' first goal of the season at 9:30.

Forester freshman goaltender Jacque Rogers blanked the Cardinals for the second time in less than 24 hours. She stopped all six shots on goal she faced in each of the three periods and improved to 6-1-0 with a 1.27 goals against average and .916 save percentage on the year.

Lake Forest, the seventh-ranked team in the country, is now 12-2-0 on the year. Saint Mary's fell to 4-8-1.

The Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at home next weekend, hosting the College of St. Scholastica at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday afternoon at 1:00. Saturday is Alumni Day and the 2017 Ry McCarthy Award will be precented between the first and second periods.
