Foresters Double Up St. Norbert 6-3

Senior forward Allie Girard was one of two Foresters to score twice as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team hosted and defeated St. Norbert College 6-3 on Friday.

Girard's first goal of the season was scored with 28 seconds remaining in the second period and turned out to be the official game-winner. She later clinched the Forester victory with an empty net goal with just 69 seconds remaining in the contest. Junior forward/defenseman Kayla Griffith assisted on Girard's first goal of the game and the second by freshman forward Sydney Simone, who had three assists on the day.

Lake Forest sophomore forward Amy Budde gave the home team the early lead with a goal just 83 seconds into the contest. Freshman forward/defenseman Kate Fanning earned her first career assist on the play.

After the Green Knights tied the score on a power play goal at the 6:29 mark of the opening period, the Foresters regained the lead on freshman defenseman Julia Unterseher's fourth goal of the year at 9:54. Simone and junior forward Olivia Spellmire set up the score.

Simone also assisted Budde on her second goal of the game and eighth this season at 7:04 in the second, giving the Foresters a 3-1 advantage.

St. Norbert cut the Lake Forest lead in half with 1:05 to play in the period but Girard answered just 37 seconds later, making the score 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining.

Junior forward Amanda Brunges lit the lamp for the third time this season at the 8:13 mark of the third period with Spellmire and freshman defenseman Amanda Boisjolie assisting. 

The visitors responded with what turned out to be their final goal of the day at 10:50 and Girard's empty-netter closed out the scoring at 18:51.

The Foresters out-shot St. Norbert in each period and had a 29-15 advantage in that category by game's end.

Lake Forest junior goaltender Jacqueline Audet made a dozen saves and improved to 4-1-0 on the year.

The improved the Foresters' overall record on the season to 6-2-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 4-1-0. St. Norbert fell to 1-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the league.

The game was the first of three for Lake Forest this weekend. The team will take on visiting Northland College Saturday afternoon at 2:00 and again at the same time on Sunday.
