Foresters Prevail 6-1 at Marian

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team posted a 6-1 victory at fellow Northern Collegiate Hockey Association member Marian University Wednesday night. Forester sophomore goaltender Casey Hartfiel stopped 16 of 17 shots on goal in the contest.

Hartfiel held the Sabres scoreless until the home team netted a power play goal at the 7:09 mark of the third period, making the score 5-1. She improved to 3-1-0 with a .925 save percentage and 1.51 goals against average on the year.

Lake Forest senior defenseman Erin Shamley scored the only goal of the opening period. Senior forwards Laura Reckdenwald and Morgan Pope assisted on Shamley's second score of the season at the 9:42 mark.

Reckenwald doubled the Forester lead just 48 seconds into the second period. Senior forward Emily Wybo and sophomore forward Allie Girard were each credited with an assist on Reckdenwald's team-high third game-winning goal of the year. Junior forward Michelle Greeneway added to the visitors' lead at the 11:33 mark of the second period with freshman forward Amanda Brunges and freshman defenseman Kayla Griffith each picking up an assist on the play.

Sophomore forward Isable Regine lit the lamp for the first time this season two minutes and 27 seconds into the third period. Greeneway then netted her second score of the game and team-high fifth this year at 6:21. Freshman forward Olivia Spellmire assisted on the goal for her first career point. After Marian got on the scoreboard, Reckdenwald scored her second goal of the night and matched Greeneway's team-high five goals on the season with 46 seconds to play in the contest. Wybo and junior forward Holly Lesperance earned assists on the score.

Lake Forest out-shot the home team 23-2 in the opening period, 10-7 in the second stanza, and and 16-8 during the game's final 20 minutes.

The Foresters are now 5-3-1 overall and in league play this season. Marian fell to 3-6-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the NCHA.

Lake Forest will finish the fall semester with a series against Finlandia University at home this weekend. The teams will face off Friday at 4:00 p.m. and again Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
