Greeneway, Zaban Highlight Foresters' NCHA End of Season Awards

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association announced its end-of-season awards for women's hockey on Thursday. Forester Michelle Greeneway was named NCHA Player of the Year and Carisa Zaban the league's Co-Coach of the Year. Lake Forest's Morgan Pope and Alex Stensland joined Greeneway on the all-conference team.

Greeneway, a sophomore forward who also earned All-NCHA honors a year ago, leads the nation with a school record 29 goals, including a league-high five game-winners and nine power play scores. She also ranks first in the country in points and goals per contest. Greeneway's 40 points so far this season are the second-highest total in team history and rank second in the NCHA. She also has four hat tricks and four two-goal games and has recorded at least one point in 20 of 22 appearances. 

Pope, a junior forward, ranks sixth in the conference with 16 goals and tied-for-ninth with 29 points. Her season totals have already exceeded those from her freshman and sophomore years combined. She has recorded at least one point in 19 of 23 games, including each of the last nine, with eight multi-point performances.

Stensland, a sophomore, is tied for ninth in the league with 18 assists and tied for fourth in points by a defenseman with 19. she has helped set up at least one goal in 13 of 21 appearances with four multi-point games. Stensland also leads the Foresters in plus-minus rating.

Zaban shared the NCHA Coach of the Year award with Rob Morgan of St. Norbert College and Marian University's Jamie Kivi. She also earned the honor last season and after leading the Foresters to their first regular season title in 2010.

Lake Forest finished first in the conference standings with 28 points and a league record of 13-3-2. The Foresters are 15-5-3 overall on the season and will host the final two rounds of the 2014 NCHA Slaats Cup Tournament this weekend.
