Foresters Finish Off Sweep of Marian

The Lake Forest College women' hockey team defeated visiting Marian University 5-1 on Saturday, completing a weekend sweep of the Sabres. Forester junior forward Marissa Weber score the team's first two goals and added an assist later in the contest.

Weber started the scoring with a power play goal with five minutes to play in the opening period. She was assisted by sophomore forwards Michelle Greeneway and Melissa Paluch. Greeneway's assist extended her point streak to 14 games.

After Marian tied the game two minutes into the second, Weber netted her second goal of the game and ninth this season at 6:59. Her team-high third game-winning goal of the year was assisted by sophomore forward Holly Lesperance and junior forward Morgan Pope. Pope added to the home team's lead with her 12th goal of the season at 18:35. Lesperance assisted on the score before lighting the lamp herself just 16 seconds later. Weber and junior defenseman Erin Shamley were credited with assists on the third goal of the weekend and fourth this season for Lesperance. Lesperance and Pope each had five points in the series.

Forester freshman forward Allie Girard closed out the scoring at the 1:55 mark of the third period. Her fifth goal in the last five games and seventh this year was set up by junior forward Emily Wybo and senior forward Maeve Connelly.

Lake Forest outshot the Marian by at least 10 in each period and 50-19 in the contest.

Forester freshman goaltender Casey Hartfiel recorded 18 saves and raised her record on the year to 7-3-1.

The victory lifts Lake Forest's overall record to 9-4-3 and its Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 7-3-2. The Sabres fell to 4-10-1 overall and 3-6-0 in the league.

The Foresters will be off next weekend before playing the seventh and eighth of nine consecutive home games the following Friday and Saturday when they host Finlandia University and the College of St. Scholastica.
