Foresters Score Five in the Third to Finish Off Sweep of St. Mary's

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team posted a 5-1 victory over visiting St. Mary's University on Monday to complete a two-game sweep of the Cardinals. Forester freshman goaltender Casey Hartfiel stopped 14 of 15 shots on goal in the contest.

Hartfiel made five saves in the first period, six in the second, and three in the third. She improved to 6-2-1 on the season with a .900 save percentage and 2.34 goals against average.

The only goal allowed by Hartfiel was a power play score late in the second period that gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Lake Forest finally got on the scoreboard at the 2:52 mark of the third period on sophomore forward Michelle Greeneway's team-high 16th goal of the season. She was assisted by fellow sophomore forward Melissa Paluch. Freshman forward Allie Girard netted what proved to be the official game-winning goal just 42 seconds later with junior forward Emily Wybo assisting on the score. Wybo also assisted Girard's fourth goal of the year at the 16:33 mark, giving the Foresters a two-goal advantage.

The Cardinals pulled their goaltender with 2:56 to play and Lake Forest made them pay just 10 seconds later. Junior forward Morgan Pope found the open net after passes from senior defenseman Sarah Gilbride and junior forward Marissa Weber. It was Pope's ninth goal of the season.

Gilbride also earned an assist with 43 seconds to play on a goal by sophomore forward Logan Taylor. Taylor's sixth goal this year occurred just eight seconds into a power play opportunity.

The Foresters put 38 shots on goal in the game to St. Mary's 15. Lake Forest is now 7-3-2 on the season while the Cardinals fell to 2-8-0.

Next weekend the Foresters will host Bethel University, another member of the Mineesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, at 7:00 Friday night and again the following afternoon at 2:00.
