Foresters Skate to 3-3 Tie at St. Norbert

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team tied host St. Norbert College, the sixth-ranked team in the nation according to D3hockey.com, 3-3 Friday night. Forester sophomore forward Michelle Greeneway scored a pair of goals in the contest.

The first four goals of the game were power play scores, including Greeneway's at the 6:40 mark of the second period. Fellow sophomore forward Melissa Paluch assisted on the score, which tied the game at one. Lake Forest then took the lead at 12:24 on junior defenseman Erin Shamley's first goal of the season. Shamley was assisted by junior forward Morgan Pope and sophomore defenseman Alex Stensland.

Lake Forest doubled up the Green Knights with a dozen shots on goal to the home team's six in a scoreless first period. The Foresters also had a 15-12 advantage in the second but were outshot 15-13 in the third.

Greeneway extended the Forester lead to 3-1 with her second power play goal of the contest at the 8:41 mark of the third period. Paluch and senior defenseman Sarah Gilbride assisted on the third goal of the season for Greeneway, who now has six multi-goal games in her career.

The Foresters were unable to hold the lead, however, as the Green Knights pulled to within one at 12:04 and tied the game with a minute to play after pulling their goaltender.

Lake Forest put eight shots on goal to St. Notbert's one in the five-minute overtime period but the game ended with the teams deadlocked at three.

Forester freshman goalie Casey Hartfiel made 31 saves in the contest to maintain her .911 save percentage on the season.

Lake Forest is now 1-1-1, both overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Norbert is 2-0-1 with all three games counting toward its league record.

The same two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
