Women's Hockey Falls to St. Norbert 5-4

Marissa Weber and Sarah Gilbride each scored goals in the last four minutes of the game, but it was not enough as the Lake Forest women's hockey team suffered its first loss in the last 13 games to visiting St. Norbert on Friday night by a score of 5-4.

Weber scored at 16:13 of the third period to cut the lead to 5-3 before Gilbride scored a power play goal at 19:43 to cut the lead to one for the Foresters (14-3-4, 11-2-4 NCHA). Lake Forest had a couple of chances in the closing seconds to tie the game, but was unable to score the equalizer.  

St. Norbert got on the board at 8:51 of the first period on a goal by Lauren Roethlisberger. The Green Knights took a 2-0 lead at 5:53 of the second period before Lake Forest freshman forward cut the lead to 2-1 at 9:39 of the second period. She was assisted by Emily Wybo and Gilbride.

St. Norbert then scored the next three goals of the game, including two in the second period and one goal five minutes into the third period to take a 5-1 lead.

Lake Forest responded with a goal of its own at 6:34 of the third period as freshman forward Michelle Greeneway scored her team-leading 20th goal of the season. Paluch and Marina Alessi assisted on the goal. Weber and Gilbride then scored goals at 16:13 and 19:43 to trim the lead to one.

Forester goalie Stacey Dierking stopped 28 shots while her counterpart Gibson made 26 saves.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. It is senior day for Lake Forest seniors Angie Chronis and Jenn Caldwell.
