The Forester women's hockey team prevailed 10-1 at Finlandia University on Saturday. Sophomore Laura Reckdenwald scored twice and added a pair of assists for a career-high four points in the contest.
Reckdenwald assisted on the game's first two goals and scored the third during as the visitors lit the lamp five times in the first eight-and-a-half minutes of play. Fellow sophomore Morgan Pope also assisted on classmate Emily Wybo's seventh score of the season at 2:01. Pope converted a power play opportunity four minutes later with Reckdenwald and Wybo assisting of the goal. Wybo and junior Sarah Gilbride assisted Reckdenwald's power play score at 7:40. Just 19 seconds passed before sophomore Marissa Weber netted her fifth goal of the year and freshman Melissa Paluch scored her 13th only 27 seconds later. Junior Maeve Connelly and sophomore Torey Crown set up Weber and Paluch's goal was unassisted.
Connelly closed out the first period scoring at with 3:35 on the clock. Her fourth goal of 2012-13 was assisted by Weber and freshman Logan Taylor.
Forester junior goaltender Stacey Dierking stopped all four shots on goal she faced in the opening period to earn the victory and improve to 10-0-0 with the best save percentage (.959) and third-lowest goals against average (0.90) in the nation.
Junior Auriana Johnson was between the pipes for the visitors during the final two periods and made six saves while allowing just one goal.
Freshman Michelle Greeneway, who had scored four times the night before, netted her team-high 16th goal of the season at 6:03 in the second period with Wybo and freshman Alex Stensland picking up the assists. Reckdenwald's second score of the afternoon and fifth this year extended the lead to 8-0 at the 10:43 mark. Weber and Taylor assisted on the play.
After Finlandia got on the scoreboard early in the third period, Pope notched her sixth goal of the year at 4:44. Sophomore Erin Shamley earned the assist. The final goal of the game was also the first career score for freshman Natalie Pattison. Stensland and Taylor set up the goal at 14:23.
The Foresters extended their team record winning streak to 11 games and surpassed the program record unbeaten streak of 10 games set and later tied by the 2009-10 squad. Lake Forest is now 13-2-4 overall this season and 10-1-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.
After the long drive home, the Foresters will be back out on their home ice Tuesday night when they host Concordia University Wisconsin at 7:00 p.m.
