Lake Forest Finishes Off Series Sweep of Eau Claire

The Forester women's hockey team won 3-1 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday night to complete its weekend sweep of the Blugolds. Lake Forest freshman Melissa Paluch had a goal and an assist in the contest.

All three Forester scores occurred late in the second period after Eau Claire had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal with 1:47 to play in the first. Paluch and junior Sarah Gilbride assisted sophomore Emily Wybo on a power play goal at 15:03. It was Wybo's fifth goal overall and her third power play score of the season.

Lake Forest freshman Michelle Greeneway grabbed the team lead in goals with her ninth of the year with just 25 seconds to play in the second. She was assisted by sophomore Torey Crown and freshman Alex Stensland. It proved to be Greeneway's second official game-winning goal of the year.

Paluch matched Greeneway's goal total on the season on an unassisted score just 14 seconds later.

Twelve of Forester junior goaltender Stacey Dierking's 20 saves on the evening were recorded during the third period. Her save percentage actually dropped slightly to .962 and she is now 4-0-0 with a 0.77 goals against average.

Lake Forest outshot the home team 33-9 during the first two periods and 43-21 for the game.

The Foresters are now 7-2-4 overall and 4-1-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Eau Claire fell to 6-8-3 overall and 5-5-2 in league games.

Lake Forest will host a pair of games against Adrian College next weekend. The Foresters and Bulldogs will face off at 7:30 Saturday night and again at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
