Lake Forest and Marian Close Out Weekend Series with 1-1 Tie

The Forester women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with visiting Marian University on Sunday. Sophomore Morgan Pope scored Lake Forest's first shorthanded goal of the season.

Pope started the scoring at with 1:48 remaining in the opening period. She was assisted by freshman Melissa Paluch.

Lake Forest outshot the visitors 8-5 in the first period and 14-5 in a scoreless second stanza.

The Foresters were still ahead 1-0 when the Sabres pulled their goalie with 1:16 to play. The visitors tied the game just 17 seconds later.

The home team had a 25-10 advantage in shots on goal in the third period and, despite killing a penalty in overtime, by a 4-3 margin in the final five minutes of the contest.

Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Jenna Brankin made 22 saves in the game. She raised her save percentage on the year to .923 and improved her goals against average to 2.07.

It was the fourth tie in the Foresters' last five contests and they are now 2-1-4 overall and 1-0-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. Marian is 3-4-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the league.

Lake Forest will continue conference play at home next weekend against the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The teams will face off Friday and 4:00 p.m. and again at 1:00 the following afternoon.
