Women's Hockey Defeats Marian 5-2 For First Conference Win

Freshman Michelle Greeneway scored a goal and added an assist and four other Foresters also scored goals as the Lake Forest women's hockey team defeated Marian University 5-2 on Saturday night at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

The victory was Lake Forest's first this season in the NCHA Conference as it improves to 2-1-3 overall and 1-0-3 in the NCHA.  Marian falls to 3-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the NCHA.

Lake Forest got on the board at 9:35 of the first period as Torey Crown's one timer from the right faceoff circle went top shelf. Greeneway assisted on Crown's first goal of the season.

Lake Forest extended its lead to 2-0 at 14:26 of the first period on Greeneway's second goal of the season with the Foresters on the power play. Logan Taylor and Angie Chronis assisted on the goal.

Marian picked up some momentum in the second period and cut the lead to 2-1 at 13:03 of the second period.

The third period was all Lake Forest as Emily Wybo (pictured) scored her first of the season at 4:03. Maeve Connelly and Morgan Pope assisted on the goal. Melissa Paluch buried one at 8:43 for her third of the season before Marian scored at 9:30 of the third period for a 4-2 score. Forester Erin Shamley closed out the scoring at 14:25 with her first goal of the season.

Lake Forest dominated on shots with a 50-16 advantage. Jenna Brankin stopped 14 shots for the Foresters while her counterpart Ali Glazer made 45 saves.

The two teams meet again on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
