Senior Kim Herring became the school's all-time scoring leader as the Lake Forest women's hockey team defeated Finlandia 5-1 on Friday night. Herring finished with a goal and an assist in the game.
Herring tied the program record with Lake Forest's first goal of the game on a rebound in front of the net at 8:00 of the first period. She then broke the record at 18:30 as Lake Forest went up 2-0 on a goal from Laura Reckdenwald and assisted by Herring and Emily Wybo. Herring currently has 98 career points.
The Foresters (7-4-1, 6-2 NCHA) extended their lead to 3-0 at 6:53 of the second period as junior Angie Chronis' slap shot from the point went through traffic and into the goal. It was her first goal of the season and she had a goal and two assists in the game. Jenn Caldwell assisted on the goal.
Finlandia (0-8-1, 0-5-0 NCHA) got on the board at 15:25 of the second period on a scramble in front of the net.
Lake Forest closed out the scoring with two third period goals at 11:15 and 19:25 by Erin Shamley and Molly Wallner. It was Shamley's first goal of the season. Chronis and Caldwell assisted on the first goal and Maeve Connelly and Chronis picked up assists on the second goal.
Forester goalie Stacey Dierking made nine saves in the victory while her counterpart Ashley Pavlish stopped 40 shots including 17 in the third period.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lake Forest.
