Lake Forest Opens NCHA Play with 3-2 Loss at UW-Superior

The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 3-2 by host UW-Superior on Friday in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both teams. Lake Forest's Kim Herring tied the program record with her 53rd career goal.

Herring's unassisted score was her third of the season and trimmed Superior's lead to one with 1:50 to play in the contest. The visitors, however, were unable to complete the comeback.

The Yellowjackets had jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with single tallies in each of the first two periods.

Lake Forest pulled to within a goal on senior Mira Trebilcock's first score of the year at the 8:06 mark of the third period. She was assisted by freshman Stephanie Quintin and sophomore Maeve Connelly.

Superior regained the two-goal advantage three-and-a-half minutes later on its second power play goal of the contest.

The home team had 38 shots on goal to the Foresters' 18 in the game. Lake Forest sophomore Stacey Dierking made 35 saves.

Superior is now 2-1-1 overall on the year while the Foresters fell to 1-1-1.

The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.
