Foresters Finish Regular Season with 4-1 Win at Finlandia

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team won 4-1 at Finlandia University on Sunday to finish the regular season with an overall record of 13-8-3 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark of 9-8-3. Junior Molly Wallner assisted on the Foresters' first goal and scored what turned out to be the official game-winner.

Finlandia scored its only goal of the weekend at the 6:38 mark of the opening period and led until Wallner set up junior Kim Herring at 11:32. Wallner then scored a power play goal at 18:02 with Herring and senior Lynn Switaj each credited with an assist. It was Wallner's second score this season and her third game-winner in five career goals. Lake Forest was shorthanded 71 seconds later when switaj assisted on freshman Stephanie Slinde's ninth goal of the season.

Switaj's second assist was the 48th of her career, tying her with classmate Melissa Kravich for first place in program history. It also tied her with Herring for second place in team history with 81 career points. Both of those ties were broken when Kravich assisted Herring's power play goal 44 seconds into the third period. It was the seventh goal of the season for Herring, whose next score will make her the third Forester to reach 50 goals in her career.

Lake Forest outshot the home team 22-9 in the contest.

Forester senior Alyssa Wintermute made eight saves to earn the victory and lower her goals against average on the season to 2.16.

Lake Forest will be the #6 seed in the NCHA O'Brien Cup Tournament and will travel to UW-Superior next weekend for a two-game quarterfinal series.
