Foresters Blank Marian Again for Dierking's First Career Shutout

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team won 8-0 at Marian University on Sunday, finishing off a weekend sweep during which the Foresters outscored the Sabres 17-0. It was the first career shutout for Lake Forest freshman goaltender Stacey Dierking.

Dierking needed just 15 saves to blank Marian while the Foresters put three times that many shots on goal. Dierking is now 3-1-1 on the season with a 1.65 goals against average and .936 save percentage.

Senior Melissa Kravich made Lake Forest history in the game by recording her program record 45th career assist, breaking a tie with classmate Lynn Switaj and 2008 graduates Courtney DeHoey and Allison Rushing. Kravich also scored two goals, giving her seven on the season.

Kravich is now tied for second on the team in points (16) with junior Mira Trebilcock, who started the scoring on Sunday with her fifth goal of the year 11:15 into the contest. Sophomore Angie Chronis and junior Jessica Dare assisted on what turned out to be the game-winner and the only score of the opening period.

Kravich broke the assist record at 5:34 in the second period on a goal by freshman Maeve Connelly. Senior Sam Herron also earned an assist on the play. Freshman Stephanie Slinde and Switaj then tied Dare for the team lead in goals with their eighth of the year at 8:57 and 11:25, respectively. Dare assisted on Slinde's score and Switaj's was set up by Chronis and Slinde.

Leading 4-0 going into the third period, the Foresters scored four more times in the final 20 minutes. Connelly netted her second score of the game and fourth this season exactly two minutes into the period. She was assisted by sophomore Jenn Caldwell and junior Molly Wallner. Kravich scored from Herron and Connelly at 5:47 and Caldwell lit the lamp two-and-a-half minutes later. Sophomore Rosy Fujimoto and freshman Amanda Forsyth assisted on Caldwell's second goal of the year. Kravich finished off the scoring at 14:40 with the only power play goal of the game. Freshman Emily White was credited with the assist.

Lake Forest is now 11-8-3 overall and 7-8-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. Marian fell to 1-21-1 overall and 1-17-0 in the league.
