Lake Forest Surrenders Two Goals in the Third, Falls to Adrian

The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 3-2 by visiting Adrian College on Saturday. Junior Jessica Dare's team-high seventh goal of the season gave the home team a 2-1 lead going into the third period but Lake Forest was unable to hold on for the victory.

After a scoreless opening period, Adrian scored first at the 5:18 mark of the second. The Foresters tied the game on an unassisted goal by sophomore Rosy Fujimoto, who tied Dare, senior Lynn Switaj, and freshman Stephanie Slinde for the team lead with her sixth score of the season. Dare then broke the tie with her seventh of the year at 12:11. The power play goal was assisted by freshman Sarah Gilbride and junior Mira Trebilcock.

Adrian tied the game on a power play goal of its own 81 seconds into the third period and score what turned out to be the game-winner at 3:34.

Lake Forest senior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute stopped 33 of 36 shots on goal in the contest.

The Foresters fell to 9-8-3 overall and 5-8-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Bulldogs raised their overall record to 12-6-3 and league mark to 10-3-3.

Lake Forest will play a home-and-home series with Marian University next weekend. The teams will face off in Lake Forest Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the following afternoon at 2:00. Saturday's contest will be the Foresters' final home game of the season and Switaj, Wintermute, and fellow seniors Brittany Lemke, Sam Herron, and Melissa Kravich will be honored before their final game in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. The second annual Ry McCarthy Award will also be presented between the first and second periods.
