Foresters Begin NCHA Play by Blanking St. Scholastica 3-0

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team won 3-0 at College of St. Scholastica Friday night in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both squads. Forester senior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute recorded 19 saves in her second shutout in as many appearances this season.

Both teams put five shots on goal in the opening period but only the one off the stick of Lake Forest sophomore Rosy Fujimoto at the 18:58 mark found the back of the net. Classmate Jenn Caldwell assisted on Fujimoto's third goal of the season.

Lake Forest out-shot the Saints 16-6 in the second period and 12-8 in the third but was unable to extend its lead until junior Jessica Dare converted a power play opportunity four minutes and 53 seconds into the final period. Fellow junior Mira Trebilcock assisted on the score, Dare's third of the year.

The visitors tacked on another insurance goal with 2:24 remaining. It was the first career score for freshman Maeve Connelly and Fujimoto was credited with the assist.

Wintermute now has a pair of shutouts in her two appearances this season. She recorded 42 saves in the two games combined.

The Foresters will take on the Saints again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Live stats will be available on the St. Scholastica website.
