Foresters Finish Third at SLIAC Championships

Tuesday's second round was a shot better than Monday's opener for Lake Forest as the team placed third at the 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The event was played on the 5,908-yard, par-72 course at The Links in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Junior Amanda Lee led the Foresters for the second day in a row, firing a 6-over 78 after carding an 80 in round one. Tuesday's score tied the fifth-best mark in program history and her 158 for the tournament is tied-for-second in team annals. Lee, whose performance on Tuesday included a pair of birdies, tied for fourth overall to earn All-SLIAC honors.

The other four Foresters finished within five shots of each other in the final standings. Senior Cece Cruz improved by eight strokes from round one with an 82 on Tuesday and her two-day score of 172 was tied-for-17th at the event. Freshman Sydney Reeder posted back-to-back 87s to match junior Faith Jung in 19th place at 174. Freshman Elizabeth Santos was in the 80s both days and her 177 put her in a tie for 22nd in the 54-player field.

Lake Forest's score of 337 on Monday tied the fifth-lowest round in team history but was bumped down a spot after Tuesday's 336, which is tied-for-fourth. At 673, the Foresters finished just one shot off the program record for 36 holes.

Grinnell College won the event with a score of 651 and Illinois College was the runner-up at 663, 10 shots ahead of the Foresters. Monmouth College placed fourth (682) and Knox College (729) rounded out the top five.

It was the first appearance at the SLIAC Championships for Lake Forest and the other four teams in the top five, which are all primarily members of the Midwest Conference.

The Foresters' 2019-20 season will resume in the spring.
