Foresters in Second Place after Day One of MWC Championships

Three Foresters are in the top 10 and Lake Forest College is in second place at the Midwest Conference Championships after the first of three scheduled days of competition.

Sophomore Faith Jung, who led the team and tied for fifth at the 2017 MWC Championships, holds down that place by herself after one day of play at this year's conference tournament. She carded an 84 on Friday, one shot better than classmate Amanda Lee, who is alone in sixth place. Junior Cece Cruz is tied with three other players for eighth place in the 31-player field with an opening round of 88.

Forester senior Anhayte Guajardo finished Friday's round in 96 strokes, good for 21st place, and freshman Sophia Levinson completed her first round with a score of 104.

Lake Forest's team score on day one was 353, 23 shots behind Grinnell College but a dozen clear of third-place Monmouth College. Illinois College (371) is fourth and St. Norbert College (379) fifth.

The teams are scheduled to begin teeing off again Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The tournament is being held at the 5,801-yard, par-73 course at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois.
