Lake Forest freshman Cece Cruz was the top player as the Forester women's golf team defeated visiting Mount Mary University 435-474 Friday at nearby Highland Park Country Club.

Cruz carded an 89 on the 5,828-yard, par-71 course. She had six pars in a seven-hole stretch in the middle of the round and posted a 42 on the back nine after going out in 47.

Forester freshman Yuka Kawata was in second place, five strokes behind Cruz. She was also better later in the round, finishing with a 46 on her final nine holes after needing 48 shots to complete the front nine. Fellow freshmen Amanda Penn-Francie and Netta Rudolph finished fourth and eighth with scores of 117 and 135, respectively.

It was the first dual meet of the year for the Foresters, who were 4-0 in such events each of the last two seasons.

Lake Forest will take on Monmouth College in a match play event on Sunday. The Aldeen Preview will be held at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois, the same course that will host the Midwest Conference Championships the following weekend.
