Foresters Finish Ninth at Carthage's Shootout on the Border

Senior Allie Girard placed tied-for-second as an individual to lead the Lake Forest College women's golf team to a ninth-place finish at Carthage College's Shootout on the Border over the weekend.

Girard completed the 5,835-yard, par-72 course in 79 strokes on Friday and again on Saturday. Both rounds matched the second-best score in team history, which Girard posted in 2014. Her 78 that fall is still the school record. Her two-day score of 158, however, is a program-best by 13 strokes and just three shots off the lead this weekend.

Freshman Cece Cruz was next on the team and tied-for-42nd in the 86-player field with a score of 180. She also had the same score in each round. Sophomores Kalay Kotasek and Anhayte Guajardo had scores of 185 and 186, respectively, to complete the team's top four.

After matching the second-best round in the program's short history with a 357 on Friday, the Foresters improved by five strokes on Saturday to finish just two shots off the record. The two-day score of 719 is 11 shots better than the previous 36-hole mark.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the team competition with a score of 645, one shot better than runner-up Hope College and eight strokes better than the hosts from Carthage. The Foresters were 20 shots behind eighth-place North Central College and nine ahead of 10th-place Calvin College.

The next event on Lake Forest's schedule is the 36-hole Marian Invite next Saturday and Sunday. Day one of competition will begin at noon and teams will tee off at 9:00 a.m. on day two.
