Foresters Finish First at Elmhurst Invite

Freshman Kalay Kotasek led the squad with a 91 as the Lake Forest College women's golf team won by a dozen shots at the five-team Elmhurst Invite on Tuesday. The event was played at the challenging Oak Brook Golf Club in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Kotasek placed fifth out of 25 players at the event. She carded a 48 on the front nine before using three straight pars in the middle of the back nine to come in with a 43.

Fellow freshman Anhayte Guajardo was just one stroke behind Kotasek and tied-for-sixth overall. She needed just 45 shots to complete the first nine holes and 47 on the back nine.

The Foresters' third-best score came from senior Alex Dunn, who finished eighth in the field with a 93. She turned in the team's only birdie of the day on the par-3, 170-yard second hole.

Sophomore Frankie Corrado rounded out the Foresters' four scorers with a round of 99 while freshman Sophia Lane carded a 111.

Lake Forest's score of 375 was 12 shots ahead of runner-up Benedictine University. The host Bluejays were third at 404, Robert Morris University fourth with a score of 432, and North Park University fifth at 440. St. Xavier University had the individual champion as well as the runner-up but just one other finisher and not not enough to qualify for the team competition.

It was the first invitational win for the Foresters, who are closing in on the end of their second year as a varsity sport.

Lake Forest will finish the season at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling this weekend. Friday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. and the teams will begin teeing off on both the front and back nine Saturday morning at 9:00.
