Lake Forest Unable to Maintain Halftime Lead at Ripon

The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 73-55 at Ripon College Tuesday night.

Junior guard Melissa Gomez shot 6-for-10 from the field and led Lake Forest with season-high-tying 13 points. Senior guard Katie Neher and junior guard Maurissa Edwards also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Neher led the visitors with five rebounds and three steals and Edwards with three assists.

The Red Hawks shot 45.9 percent from the floor while the Foresters were at just 35.6 percent. Ripon also outscored Lake Forest 16-11 from the foul line and had a commanding 48-27 edge in rebounds.

The Foresters led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter and by as many as 11 in the second, which ended with the visitors ahead 36-28.

Ripon rallied in the third, scoring 16 straight at one point and taking a 48-44 lead into the fourth. The Red Hawks outscored their guests 19-3 in the next five minutes to put the game out of reach.

Lake Forest is now 4-11 overall and 1-7 in the Midwest Conference this season. Ripon raised its overall record to 11-6 and league mark to 7-1.

The Foresters will host Knox College for Alumni Day this Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
