Foresters Drop Non-Conference Game at Fontbonne

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 78-64 Monday night at Fontbonne University.

Senior forward Annie Lally shot 8-for-13 from the field and led the visitors with 17 points. Senior guard Katie Neher and junior guard Maurissa Edwards also reached double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively, and both players grabbed six rebounds. Edwards dished out four assists, as did freshman guard Jamie Springstead, who led all players in the game with a season-high 10 rebounds.

The Foresters out-rebounded the home team 43-33 but committed 27 turnovers to Fontbonne's 18. The Griffins shot 44.4 percent from the field while their guests were at just 37.7 percent.

The teams were separated by one point at the end of each of the first three quarters. Fontbonne led 15-14 after 10 minutes of play, trailed 32-31 at halftime, and was ahead 50-49 with a quarter to play.

The Griffins connected three times from beyond the arc and led by 10 just 70 seconds into the final period. Lake Forest got no closer than five points the rest of the way.

The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 3-9 while Fontbonne improved to 5-8.

Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play against Beloit College at home on Wednesday. The contest will begin at 5:30 p.m.
