Victory over Worcester State Gives Lake Forest A Sweep in Hawaii

The Forester women's basketball team defeated Worcester State University 77-68 in Hilo, Hawaii, on Monday.

Junior Maurissa Edwards and senior Katie Neher led Lake Forest with 21 and 20 points, respectively. The two guards combined to score 102 points in the team's two games at the Big Island Holiday Classic. Neher shot 8-for-14 from the field and Edwards 7-for-13 while adding a game-high six assists.

Forester freshman guard Taylor Major had a breakout performance on Monday, establishing career-highs with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Annie Lally also reached double figures with 10 points in the contest.

Lake Forest shot a season-high 48.2 percent from the field while limiting Worcester State to just 33.8 percent. The Foresters outscored the Lancers 15-3 on three-pointers and 18-15 from the foul line, helping to make up for a 49-34 deficit on the boards.

After scoring 30 points in the third quarter and 29 in the fourth during Sunday's 95-89 overtime victory over Luther College, the Foresters scored 29 again in the first quarter on Monday. They took a 43-28 lead into the locker room at halftime but the advantage was down to nine points at 59-50 by the end of the third. Worcester State closed to within seven several times in the fourth but got no closer. A 10-2 run by the Foresters extended the lead to 15 points and clinched the victory.

Lake Forest is now 3-5 and Worcester State 4-8 on the season.

The Foresters will close out 2022 against visiting University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Friday, December 30, with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
