Foresters Defeated at Monmouth in Season's First Road Game

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team dropped a 95-64 decision at Monmouth College Tuesday night.

It was the first road game of 2022-23 for the Foresters, who were led in scoring by junior guard Maurissa Edwards with 17 points. Senior guard Katie Neher added 15 and junior guard Melissa Gomez chipped in with seven.

Monmouth shot 46.3 percent from the field and connected on 15 three-pointers in 36 tries (41.7%). The visitors connected on just 30.1 percent of their field goal attempts, including three of 14 from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots also had a slight 40-37 edge in rebounds.

Lake Forest trailed 20-16 after the first quarter and the Scots began the second with a 10-0 run. The Foresters fought back to within five points late in the half but Monmouth scored the next four and led 43-34 at the break.

The home team pulled away in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field and making four three-pointers in each of the final two periods.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 1-4 and Midwest Conference mark to 0-2. It was the league opener for Monmouth, which improved to 5-2 overall.

Lake Forest will play its final game of the fall semester against Cornell College on Saturday. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
