Foresters Come Back, Pull Away from MSOE in Fourth Quarter

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team outscored Milwaukee School of Engineering 28-13 in the fourth quarter and prevailed 70-60 at home Tuesday night.

The Foresters trailed by as many as seven points in the second quarter and six late in the third. They went into the four facing a 47-42 deficit and the MSOE lead was five again with just seven minutes to play. The home team tied the game at 54 a minute-and-a-half later and the teams were knotted again at 58 with three minutes left. Lake Forest then pulled away as senior guard Katie Neher and junior guard Maurissa Edwards each scored five points down the stretch while the Raiders managed just two.

Neher led all players in the contest with 19 points and tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds. She shot 9-for-17 from the field and added a pair of assists. Edwards was next with 17 points and set a career-high with seven steals. Senior forward Annie Lally made all four of her field goal attempts in a 10-point performance and freshman guard taylor Major matched Neher with eight boards.

Lake Forest shot 47.7 percent from the field while limiting the visitors to just 32.8 percent. MSOE connected on 11 three-pointers to the Foresters' four but the home team outscored the Raiders 24-9 from the foul line and had a 35-23 advantage in rebounds.

The victory evened the Foresters' record at 1-1 on the young season while MSOE fell to 0-2.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play Saturday afternoon against Grinnell College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
