Lake Forest Pulls Away From Beloit in Second Half

The Forester women's basketball team overcame a slow start and cruised to a 62-44 victory over Beloit College at home on Saturday.

Lake Forest trailed by as many as eight points in the opening period and 17-10 when it ended. The Foresters scored the first eight points of the second quarter and closed out the half with a 12-3 run to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room at the break. Junior forward Annie Lally accounted for 15 of the home team's 20 points in the second quarter.

The margin reached double figures early in the third quarter and the Foresters were ahead by 14 with 10 minutes to play. They also scored the first 11 points of the fourth to break the game open.

Lally shot 8-for-11 from the field and led all players in the contest with 21 points. Sophomore guard Maurissa Edwards also reached double figures for Lake Forest with 13 points and she dished out a game-high five assists. Junior guard Katie Neher chipped in with nine points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while senior guard Ely DoBrodt had five of the Foresters' season-high 21 steals.

The Foresters shot 42 percent from the field while limiting the Buccaneers to just 32 percent.

Lake Forest is now 7-13 overall and 4-8 in Midwest Conference play this season. Beloit fell to 4-14 overall and 0-10 in the league.

The Foresters, who were playing in their 10th game in a 19-day span, will have a few days off of competition before hosting Lawrence University Wednesday evening at 7:30.
