In its fourth game in the last six days, the Forester women's basketball team was defeated 61-48 by visiting Cornell College.

Lake Forest sophomore guard Maurissa Edwards led all players in the contest with 18 points to continue her breakout week. She has averaged 18.7 points in the last three contests after scoring 6.1 points per game in the first 18 appearances of her career.

Senior forward Kara Schoenlein was next on the team with nine points and she led the team with a career-high 10 rebounds.

The teams' shooting percentages were similar, with the Foresters connecting on 31.3 percent of field goal attempts and the Rams on 31.7. Both teams made five three-pointers and Cornell slightly outscored the home team 16-13 at the foul line. The most significant statistical edge for the visitors was rebounding, where they grabbed 53 to Lake Forest's 30.

While it was Lake Forest's third game in four days, Cornell was playing for the first time in more than five weeks.

The Foresters led 15-11 after the first quarter but were outscored 16-5 in the second and trailed 27-20 at halftime. They trimmed the deficit to five points on three different occasions in the third quarter but the Rams closed out the period with nine straight points and led 46-32 with 10 minutes left in the contest. Cornell led by no fewer than eight points the rest of the way.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 4-10 and their Midwest Conference mark to 2-6. Cornell is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Lake Forest will play the sixth of 11 games in 22 days Wednesday night at Monmouth College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
