Foresters Pull Away in Fourth Quarter at Beloit

Trailing by a point with 10 minutes to play, the Lake Forest College women's basketball team rallied and won 72-62 at Beloit College on Wednesday.

The Foresters took the lead for good on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Maurissa Edwards with 6:18 to play. Edwards shot 9-for-13 from the field, knocked down three of six attempts from beyond the arc, and led all players in the contest with a career-high 22 points. She also added four assists and a pair of steals on the evening.

Junior forward Annie Lally and guard Katie Neher were next on the team with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Lally shot 8-for-9 from the free throw line and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds. Neher scored seven points in the decisive fourth quarter and made 11 of 12 foul shots on the night. Lake Forest was 21-for-25 from the charity stripe as a team.

Lake Forest shot 43.4 percent from the field while Beloit was at 39.3 percent. The Foresters also outscored the Buccaneers 15-3 on three-pointers and out-rebounded them 40-31.

The go-ahead three-pointer by Edwards was the 17th lead change and the score was tied eight times in the contest. The Foresters trailed 18-15 at the end of the opening period and took a 37-36 lead into the locker room at the half.

Lake Forest is now 4-8 overall and 2-4 in Midwest Conference play on the season. Beloit fell to 4-10 overall and the Buccaneers are winless in six league games.

This weekend will be a busy one for the Foresters, who will travel to Knox College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off before hosting Cornell College Saturday at 5:00 in the evening.
