Foresters Fall at Cornell

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 68-55 at Cornell College on Saturday in the Foresters' final Midwest Conference game of the fall semester.

Cornell scored the first eight points of the game and led by as many as 10 in the opening period, which ended with the Rams ahead 18-11. The Foresters closed to within five points in the second quarter but trailed by seven again at 34-27 when it ended. A 10-2 third quarter run by the home team made it a 14-point game and the margin grew to 19 in the fourth.

Junior forward Annie Lally led the visitors with 23 points and junior guard Katie Neher added 13. Senior forward Kara Schoenlein pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and sophomore guard Maurissa Edwards chipped in with three assists and four steals.

The Foresters shot 30.8 percent from the field while the Rams were at 36.8 percent. Lake Forest had a 46-43 advantage in rebounds but committed 21 turnovers while forcing just 13.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 2-5 and Midwest Conference mark to 1-2. Cornell improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Lake Forest's next two games will be played at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, where the Foresters will take on Alverno College on Sunday, December 19, and Washington and Lee University the next day.
