Foresters Settle for Split at Webster Tip-Off Classic

Less than 24 hours after defeating Fontbonne University on day one of the Webster Tip-Off Classic, the Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 90-62 by Webster University on Saturday.

Junior guard Katie Neher made 10 of 12 attempts from the foul line and scored a career-high 22 points in the contest. Sophomore guard Maurissa Edwards was the only other Forester in double figures with 11 points while sophomore forward Brooke Johnson led the team with nine rebounds.

Shooting percentages for the two teams were nearly identical and Lake Forest had a 39-34 edge in rebounds. The most glaring statistical difference between the Gorlocks and Foresters camei n the turnover column, where Webster had 19 while the visitors committed 36.

Webster outscored Lake Forest 15-10 in the first quarter and had a five-point advantage against in the second, which ended with the home team ahead 42-32. The margin was 10 again at 53-43 midway through the third before the Gorloks went on a 15-4 run to close out the period. Webster continued to add to its lead in the fourth.

After the game Neher and Johnson were named to the Webster Tip-Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Foresters are now 1-2 and the Gorloks 3-0 on the young season.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play next Saturday at Grinnell College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
