Foresters Fall to Knox

Freshman guard Kaley Sheehan scored a team-high 15 points off the bench but Lake Forest was defeated 80-65 by Knox College at home on Sunday.

Sheehan was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Meona Feather and freshman guard Katie Neher with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Junior forward Delaney Sjong led the home team with seven rebounds and was one of two Foresters with three steals.

Lake Forest shot 41.4 percent from the field but was unable to keep up with the Prairie Fire, who connected on exactly half of their field goal attempts. The Foresters were outscored 14-8 from the foul line and were out-rebounded 39-31 on the afternoon. The teams combined for 45 turnovers in the contest.

The home team jumped out to a 9-2 lead and were ahead 18-13 at the end of the opening period. Knox overtook the Foresters in the second and took a 39-30 lead into the locker room at halftime after scoring the final seven points of the quarter.

Lake Forest closed to within six points late in the third quarter but got no closer. The Prairie Fire led 61-54 going into the fourth and pulled away during the final 10 minutes of the game.

The Foresters are now 9-9 overall this season and 6-5 in Midwest Conference play. Knox improved to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the league. The teams split the season series with Lake Forest having taken the first meeting 73-64 three weeks ago in Galesburg, Illinois.

Lake Forest will host Ripon College on Wednesday with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
