Sophomore guard May De Luca scored a season-high 10 points off the bench Saturday afternoon but Lake Forest was defeated 70-50 at Cornell College.

De Luca was one of two Foresters to score in double figures, joining junior guard Kelsey Burton, who finished with 15. Freshman center Katie Fagan led the visitors with eight rebounds and three blocked shots and senior guard Zaria Sydnor dished out a team high three assists.

The teams combined to make just 33 of 106 attempts from the field. The largest statistical discrepancy came at the free throw line, where the Rams connected on 28 of 35 foul shots while Lake Forest was just 12-for-18.

After a three-pointer by Burton made it a 3-3 game after nearly four minutes of play, the home team rattled off 12 straight points and led 17-5 at the end of the opening period. Cornell also started the second with an 11-0 run and went into the locker room at halftime ahead 38-22.

Fifteen consecutive points by the Rams during the third quarter extended the lead to 28 and it was there again at 62-34 with 10 minutes remaining. The margin reached 32 early in the fourth before the Foresters outscored Cornell 16-4 to close out the contest.

Lake Forest is now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Midwest Conference play this season. Cornell improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the league.

The Foresters will host Beloit College Wednesday night with tip-off scheduled for 7:30.
