Freshman center Katie Fagan's 11 rebounds were five more than anyone else pulled down on Wednesday in Lake Forest's 75-59 loss to visiting Carthage College.
Fagan also scored eight points and added a pair of assists in the contest.
Sophomore forward Adia Maund led Lake Forest with 11 points while freshman guard Katie Neher chipped in with 10. Neher became the seventh player to reach double figures in scoring at least once in the team's five games so far this year. Sophomore guard Ely DoBrodt matched Fagan's eight points and led the home team with four assists.
The Foresters shot 37 percent from the field on the night while the Lady Reds were successful on nearly 46 percent of their field goal attempts. Both teams attempted 18 three-pointers and 14 free throws with Carthage outscoring Lake Forest 15-12 from beyond the arc and 14-9 from the charity stripe. The visitors also had a 38-34 edge in rebounds.
Carthage scored the game's first seven points and led by as many as 13 points in the opening period. The Foresters scored the final five points on the quarter and trailed 23-15 when it ended. Lake Forest closed to within six less than a minute into the second quarter and, after seeing the deficit double to 12, pulled back to within six again at 36-30 at halftime.
The margin was down to five points twice early in the third quarter before the Lady Reds began pulling away. They extended their lead to 14 points at 58-44 with 10 minutes remaining and the difference reached 20 points early in the final period. The Foresters eventually made it an 11-point game but got no closer.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's record on the season to 2-3 while Carthage's mark evened at 2-2.
The Foresters' next two games will be played during the Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on the final day of November and first of December.
