Foresters Rout Illinois Tech for First Win of 2018-19

Senior forward Hannah Hiland tied for the team lead with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in Lake Forest College's 87-36 victory Monday night at Illinois Institute of Technology.

It was the second career double-double for Hiland, who also added two steals while playing just 20 minutes in the contest.

Sophomore guard Kelsey Burton matched Hiland's point total, junior forward Molly Schoenlein tied her in rebounds, and junior guard Zaria Sydney shared the team lead in assists. Freshman forward Adea Maund also reached double figures in points with 11 and she added eight boards.

Burton connected on a career-high five of the Foresters' 14 three-pointers on the night as they matched the second-highest single-game total in team history in just 30 attempts. The visitors shot shot 40.5 percent from the field overall while limiting Illinois Tech to just 25.5 percent. Lake Forest also had a commanding 59-37 edge in rebounds and forced 33 turnovers while committing 21.

The Foresters score the first five points of the contest and led throughout. The margin reached as many as 12 points in the first quarter, which ended with Lake Forest leading 20-11 after a three-pointer by senior forward Hannah O'Day in the closing seconds. Leading by 10 with seven minutes to play in the second quarter, the visitors rattled off 14 straight points to finish the half ahead 39-15.

An 11-0 Forester run in the third quarter extended the lead to 39 points and the margin grew to 54 late in the fourth.

Lake Forest is now 1-3 and Illinois Tech 0-3 on the season.

The Foresters will host Benedictine University next Tuesday at 7:00 before beginning Midwest Conference play the following weekend.
